Quite stunning Edgar Westbury Diagonal Paddle live steam engine for sale. Nicely clad cylinders, bright paintwork and metalwork. Stephenson's valve gear.
Base measures 15" x 12" so a very impressive centre piece. Would enhance most live steam engine collections and quite a rare model to find. The steam inlet and exhaust pipwork needs installing with air tight joints. It would also be worth using loctite on the paddle's nuts/bolts as some do loosen after runnig. There are a couple missing but not is big deal.
Great looking crank, that also drives the pump. Good to see the oil cups on the crossheads, crank bearings & eccentric points.
We have had this running on air both forward and reverse. Often the Stephenson's valve gear pivots need a helping hand. I hove found this normal on most of the examples I have had. Sometimes after running they need resetting. Pinning the joints would be a possible answer should you wish too.
A'far from complete' example of this engine has just sold on line for £2,250, so this engine seems excellent value.
