Stuart steam plant for launch or for just stationary running.
- Board is 32.25" x 8.5".
- Metal plate is just under 20" & just under 7" wide.
- 10" to top of chimney, but add 3/4" for the wooden base.
- Boiler is just under 4" diameter and 8.5" long.
This is a Stuart D10 with the added advantage of bronze cylinders. I understand the pistons are stainless, but I might need to double check, so ideal for anti corrosion in this marine environment. The reversing facility has a lever for easy servo connecting. There is a well designed geared lubricator for the steam inlet, much like thoes used on locomotives, i.e. mort sophisticated than the standard Stuart displacement lubricator. We have run the engine on air and it runs very smoothly both forward and reverse.
Gas has a removable twin burner setup up on a well designed spring adapter, and there is a Cheddar gas valve with electronics, on its own worth quite a bit. The temp sensor, on the top of the boiler will need wiring to the Cheddar electronic box. There is a servo for the gas valves.
The boiler has been tested by a club steam boiler tester. Hydraulic to 160psi for a working steam pressure of 80 psi. The two gas valves have been set at 75psi. The boiler steam take off then runs through the boiler as a super heater. There is a removable plate at the base of the chimney for cleaning access. Obviously the boiler would benifit from the addition of lagging, however at least you can appreciate the quality of the boiler in it's naked state.
It's a well designed and very well engineered live steam plant.
The last photos above shows a number of other items that were with this steam plant when I acquired it. They are not needed however you are welcome to them if you see a use that the builder might have had in mind. There are a couple of boiler drawings included too.
