Wonderfully made Stuart No. 4 live steam engine for sale. One of my favourites as it's a great size, large enough to be impressive but not too huge to display like the No. 1 or 5a.
This model has been made from the old, very good quality, Henly-On-Thames Stuart castings. Made by an accomplished engine, when you look closely and see it running on air it becomes obvious. The machined finishes are very good, the crank looks very well made, the flywheel runs true, and a very good indicator, the cladding sits nicely, something i've always found difficult to get right.
Will look amazing when painted and perhaps an exhaust tube added. We also have a new old stock Henly-On-Thames reversing gear kit that can be sold to the buyer of this engine. See photos.
The No. 4 is 10" tall and has a 1.5" bore & 1.25" stroke.
Superb engineering, that's difficult to appreciate from the photos. Very smooth running on air.
Given that Stuart's machined set of castings for a No. 9 is £2,216 makes this a good buy in my view. Stuart's horizontal No.9 shares the same cylinder and flywheel etc, and according to Stuart a machined kit for a No. 4 (if they did one) would be in the same price bracket.
Price: £ 995 for the engine & £150 for the reversing gear. (No additional VAT to add)
Happy to consider a loco, traction, or stationary/marine/aero engines as a part exchange.
