An extremely well made 5" diameter Tubal Cain designed live steam vertical boiler for steam plant for sale. Designed for coal firing but can also be used on propane using a Sievert "neck tube" type torch.

We have done a hydraulic pressure test to 200 psi and all was good. We removed all the fittings and used threaded plugs. It was tested by a local model club's boiler tester. We can not supply an official boiler certificate, as your club will need to do this after their own testing, but we can confirm our own test was successful. The safety valve lifted at 100 psa, the working pressure, and also the gauge was working fine. Obvioulsy the gauge was not subjected to 200 psi !! The boiler has it's original stamp and there is also a triangle of copper material if any boiler inspector wants to know the thickness of the copper used in construction.

There is some work required to finish this boiler as you can see from the photos. To note: Boiler top needs fitting and the chimney (12" long brass tube) needs machining to fit. Water level glass needs adding. The fittings might not all be in the correct positions, these have just been screwed in finger tight after my plugs for testing were removed. The fittings were just ones I acquired with the boiler, they might not all be correct, but they are all included and represent an extremely good cost saving to you. The bottom ash pan / base need making and ash door parts are present but need assembly/brazing. The coal/fire door needs doing. Cladding is also required.

5" diameter, and main tube is 12" long in total. Chimney tube is also 12" so plenty long enough to cut down to the length you would like.

Shown in Model Engineer 1978.

This does have the feeling of a very well made boiler and I would also go as far as to say a professional standard. Looking at the quality of the soldering, the superheater and tubes, whoever made this knew what they were doing. Regardless will still need your own club to do their own boiler test.

If clad nicely will look superb with any model steam plant, a cut above your normal Stuart Babcock boiler !
